Local people invited to have their say on artwork for new £17m hospital

Local people are being invited to have their say on the artwork to be hung on the walls of the new hospital.

Arts charity Lime has been tasked with creating artwork specifically for the £17m hospital on Railway Street – and artist Stella Corrall wants to work with the local community to help develop her designs.

Corrall will create a piece of artwork for the main waiting area, as well as designs for three glass panels in the new hospital, which is due to open in the spring.

And a number of sessions have been organised to give people an opportunity to meet her and contribute their ideas towards the overall theme of the artwork. There will also be a chance to get involved in some fun, hands-on activities.

The intention is for the sessions to give the artwork a “local flavour and feel”.

The sessions are being held in Stamford Ward in the current Altrincham Hospital, on Market Street, on the below dates:

  • Wednesday 26th November 2pm – 4pm
  • Tuesday 2nd December 10am – 12pm
  • Saturday 6th December 10am – 12pm
  • Thursday 11th December 5pm – 7pm

Interested people – who do not have to be particularly arty but simply have ideas on what the art should look like – can come for whole sessions or just drop in.

Corrall said: “My aim is to intrigue, delight and engage people of all ages. By working with the community and client my work develops naturally in response to the environment, creating artwork with welcoming warmth and reassurance.”

Corrall’s trademark style is to create artworks using specifically designed, flexible translucent plastics.
