Altrincham DJ and friend of Jimmy Savile jailed for 25 years

A former friend of Jimmy Savile was today sentenced to 25 years in jail for a series of rapes and indecent assaults on girls as young as 12.

A former friend of Jimmy Savile was today sentenced to 25 years in jail for a series of rapes and indecent assaults on girls as young as 12.

Former radio DJ Ray Teret, of Woodlands Road in Altrincham, was last week convicted of seven counts of rape and 11 counts of indecent assault during the 1960s and 1970s.

Greater Manchester Police are now investigating claims from a further four women.

At Minshull Street Crown Court today, Teret – known as Ugly Ray – was told by Mr Justice Baker that the 25-year sentence means the 73-year-old will probably spend the rest of his life in jail.

The judge said: “Those who were raped had little or no understanding what was happening to them and felt they could do little to prevent the abuse taking place.”

Teret’s victims cheered in the public gallery as he was sentenced.

The court had heard how Teret had been a friend and chauffeur for the Jimmy Savile, and had followed the the disgraced DJ “around like a shadow”.

After the hearing, Detective Chief Inspector Graham Brock said: “After decades of hiding behind the veneer of being a distinguished radio presenter, Ray Teret has finally been exposed as the manipulative and dangerous sexual predator that he is.”
