Police have confirmed that a 29-year-old woman died in Altrincham yesterday when the support arm of a flatbed truck struck her from behind.

The woman, who has not yet been named, suffered serious head injuries and died at the scene of the incident on Dunham Road.

Her family have been contacted and formal identification is due to take place today,

The incident happened shortly before 5.15pm last evening.

Constable Paul Joynson, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is clearly a tragic incident in which a woman has lost her life and we have specialist officers providing support to her family following this deeply distressing incident.

“We would like to offer them our deepest condolences at this terribly sad time.

“We are working hard to establish exactly how this awful accident came about, but we would like anyone who was nearby at the time to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on the number provided.”
