A unique mural created by a Manchester graffiti artist at the Altrincham French Festival is being auctioned off to raise money for Marie Curie.

Russ Meehan spent seven hours at the third annual Altrincham French Festival last month creating a mural of classic Gallic imagery in his own distinctive style.

The finished work of art, depicting iconic Parisian scenes such as the Eiffel Tower, Moulin Rouge and the Paris Metro, is up for auction in six individual canvasses measuring 1000 x 1250 mm.

Anyone is free to bid for the artwork here.

“It’s great to show what you can do with spray paint rather than just write your name on a wall,” said Meehan, who also ran graffiti workshops and oversaw a schools’ graffiti art competition won by Myth O’Kell from Altrincham Grammar School for Girls.

“I was delighted to be invited to the French Festival. In truth, I didn’t know much about it before I was asked.

“But it was a great day and had I not chatted to so many people, I might have got the mural finished a bit quicker!

“I had an idea of what I was going to do but then just put my own interpretation on it.”

Meehan’s work is already on show at Scene, Spinningfields’ first Indian restaurant, and the gable ends of two houses in Levenshulme.

He was also employed to give a cutting edge, urban feel to a Stockport skate park used as the backdrop for Wayne Rooney’s ‘Street Striker’ series for Sky.
