Altrincham Film Club to double screenings as it celebrates fifth birthday

Altrincham Film Club is celebrating its fifth year by almost doubling the number of films it will show in 2016.

Altrincham Film Club is celebrating its fifth year by almost doubling the number of films it will show in 2016.

The club moved to Bowdon’s Cinnamon Club several years ago and will now be moving to monthly screenings.

David Roberts, one of the organisers, said: “We’ve never been a for-profit club – we started as an idea in the pub and we’ll always aim first to give our members a great film and good company.

“But one of the biggest complaints was not knowing when we would be showing, and now we feel established in Bowdon’s Cinnamon Club we feel ready to give members a regular monthly date in the diary.”

As well as a new regular slot, the club has overhauled its website to make it easier for members to let them know what they think of the films.

Mark Elliott, another organiser, added: “Discussion about the films has always been a central part of our club. We like to offer our members films they didn’t always know they wanted to see and it seems to work very well, so it’s always great to get feedback.”

Altrincham Film Club’s first film of 2016 will be the award-winning tragicomedy Since Otar Left (15). It will be shown at the Cinnamon Club tomorrow (Thursday 21st January), with doors opening at 7.30pm. Guests are welcome and pay £9 on the door.
