Altrincham FC manager Lee Sinnott gives us the inside track on the Robins’ progress this season in the Vanarama National League. Here’s his latest column for Altrincham Today.

I was hoping that this week, my column would be reflecting on at least one much-needed victory after two more homes games were played at the J Davidson stadium last week. Unfortunately it hasn’t turned out to be the case.

The first match on Saturday saw us come away with a respectable point in a 3-3 draw against Lincoln City. There was a twinge of disappointment having been ahead twice, only to end up needing to score a third goal in order to get anything from the game at all. But we knew that we could consider it a point gained if we could back it up with a win three days later against Chester.

Highlights from the draw against Lincoln:

But it didn’t turn out that way as we suffered a very poor 3-0 defeat at home. It was a substandard performance and we spoke frankly about it in the dressing room after the match. We can’t use injuries as an excuse as the players simply didn’t turn up. Your support was fantastic as we expected it would be in a local derby and I have to apologise, as you all deserved better from the night.

Saying all that, anybody can get put down on the canvas whether you’re at the top or bottom of the league. I’ve got an honest bunch of lads who I’m confident will get back up and respond in the right way this Saturday. We’ll speak again about Tuesday night’s result before then and the players will be ready to fight back in front of our home fans against Guiseley.

Highlights from the defeat to Chester:

We were worried Simon Richman had cracked a bone in his foot after coming off against Chester, but thankfully that’s not the case so we’ll have to see how fast that settles down before Saturday. Both Jordan Sinnott and Dylan Mottley-Henry were missing on Tuesday due to similar knocks on the knee. We’re hopeful that both will be available for Saturday’s game.

You don’t need me to tell you how important Saturday’s home match is. We need to get back to winning ways against a team directly above us in the Vanarama National League and I hope to see you all at the J Davidson Stadium to help us on our way.
