Part of the ceiling at Altrincham Hospital has collapsed – little more than a year after the £17 million building was opened.

The damage to the ceiling of the first floor waiting area was caused by some “exceptionally heavy rain”, a spokesperson for Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed.

A statement said: “Following some exceptionally heavy rainfall during the evening of Tuesday 14th June, some damage was caused to the ceiling of the first floor waiting area of Altrincham Hospital.

“The area has been cordoned off and work is underway to rectify this.

“No patients, staff or services have been adversely affected and the hospital is open and functioning as normal.”

It’s not yet known how long the repair work will take.

The Railway Street community hospital was opened in April 2015 after a two-year building project.
