Trafford votes to Remain in Europe – but the UK wants out

Voters in Trafford defied the national trend by voting to remain in Europe with one of the largest majorities in the country.

Voters in Trafford defied the national trend by voting to remain in Europe with one of the largest majorities in the country.

The vote was 72,293 in favour of staying with the European Union with 53,018 voting for Leave, a 57.69% to 42.31% split. The turnout was was more than 75% and was the highest in Greater Manchester.

In neighbouring Manchester, voters opted to remain with 121,823 voting to stay in Europe and 79,991 voting to leave.

In the official figures for the whole of the UK however, 17,410,742 (51.9%) voted to Leave, ahead of 16,141,241 (48.1%) who voted to Remain.
