Office Christmas Party (15)

office

Christmas can be a chaotic time of year and never is this truer than at the awkward office Christmas do. The one where co-workers and alcohol mix in a dangerously close proximity and where you find out your boss is a big fan of sherry-induced karaoke. Well Hollywood funny folk Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston reunite from surprise hit Horrible Bosses to throw a party of their own in festive feature Office Christmas Party.

Bateman works in an office branch infamous for throwing a Christmas bash that goes a little too far, thanks to his party-hard boss (Deadpool’s T.J. Miller). But with stern CEO (Aniston) feeling a little ‘grinchy’ by threatening to close the branch, the office must band together to perform a Christmas miracle of their own – with the craziest party yet.

Featuring some of the best upcoming comedic talent which cinema has to offer, including Ghostbuster’s Kate McKinnon, Office Christmas Party is set to deliver plenty of laughs this season.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12A)

It may be a tale set a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, but we’ve never be closer to the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the latest blockbuster in the worldwide sci-fi phenomenon from Lucasfilm and Disney.

Following last year’s return to form with The Force Awakens, fans and film-goers alike are eagerly anticipating the upcoming ‘spin-off’ Star Wars flick – the first of what is apparently many, many more. A seemingly grittier Jedi-free affair set before the events of Episode IV: A New Hope, the movie stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, a former criminal who must band together an unlikely bunch for a top secret mission to uncover the Empire’s secret weapon – The Death Star.

With multiple midnight showings already incredibly fast and the original series creator George Lucas giving his personal blessing, this is going to be a cinematic force to be reckoned with and easily a contender as one of the biggest movies of 2016.

Last Chance to See

Arrival (12A)

Amy Adams as Louise Banks in ARRIVAL by Paramount Pictures

Described by critics and fans alike as one of the smartest blockbusters of the past few years when it landed a few weeks ago, director Denis Villeneuve’s science fiction fantasy Arrival is heading for a departure from cinemas soon.

Starring Academy Award nominee Amy Adams, this tense and intriguing movie takes a much-more thoughtful approach to the usually action/explosion heavy alien invasion genre. An elite team, led by expert linguist Louise Banks (Adams) must investigate mysterious spacecraft appearing across the globe. With an interstellar conflict possibly on the horizon, Banks must find out the true intentions of these galactic tourists and learn to communicate with them peacefully.

From the filmmaker behind modern greats Sicario and Prisoners, this out-of-this-world gem shouldn’t be missed.

Family Favourite

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (12A)

fant

The magic of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter franchise has easily been felt throughout the past few decades and the wizarding world isn’t coming to a standstill anytime soon with Broadway plays, more planned books and the release of the first chapter of a whole new fantasy spin-off franchise Fantastic Beast And Where To Find Them.

Set in 1920’s New York, peculiar wizard and travelling author Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) is set to meet with the Magical Congress of the USA, all whilst carrying a suitcase packed with all sorts of magical critters. Unfortunately for Newt, these beasties want to see the sights themselves, escaping into the Big Apple and risking the discovery of the wizarding world by the No-Maj (we Brits know them as Muggles).

With the screenplay penned by J.K Rowling herself and with Deathly Hallows director David Yates at the helm, Potterheads craving more wands and wizards don’t need a Marauder’s Map to find Fantastic Beasts, as it’s showing several times a day at Altrincham Vue cinema.

Coming Soon

Passengers (12A)

Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt star in Columbia Pictures' PASSENGERS.

What do you get when you put two of cinema’s biggest stars at the moment together as romantic leads? What if that movie was an isolated intergalactic adventure movie with blockbuster special effects and thrilling twists aplenty? What if that movie also had Michael Sheen as a bartender robot? Well Hollywood thinks it may have the answers with upcoming release Passengers.

Starring Jennifer Lawrence & Chris Pratt as two lone space-crew members who awake from their cryosleep a little too early – 90 years too early. Being the only people awake (not to mention probably the two most attractive people on the ship) they easily begin to warm to each other. However, something sinister which could mean the death for everyone on board rears its ugly head and it’s up to our astro-insomniacs to save the day.

Sci-fi flicks are currently on something of a winning streak, with last year’s The Martian, Nolan’s Interstellar and Sandra Bullock floatathon Gravity being huge hits with the Christmas crowds, we expect festive film fans looking to the stars to be on board for Passengers as well.
