Hundreds of local shoppers battled the snowy weather this morning to get a first look at Dunelm’s new store in Altrincham.

The brand new 30,000 sq ft store at Bridgewater Retail Park on Manchester Road was officially opened by the Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Judith Lloyd.

It opens after a considerable renovation project at the park – which now also boasts a Bensons for Beds and a revamped Halfords – and creates 60 new jobs for the area.

Students from Navigation Primary School choir sang songs for shoppers as they sheltered from the rain, with the store presenting the school with a £200 cheque to thank them for their support.

Dunelm Altrincham store manager, Suzannah Bolton, said: “The opening event was a great success and we really enjoyed welcoming our Altrincham neighbours into our new store.

“We have been counting down the days to opening and everyone in the team worked really hard to get the store ready for the official opening day. We are looking forward to settling into our new neighbourhood and have got lots planned over the next few months for the local community.”

The new store, which will be open seven days a week, will stock 20,000 home furnishing products, across homewares, furniture and garden. Dunelm’s Made to Measure Bespoke Service will also be available at the store.

Dunelm, which turned over £881m in the 12 months to July 2016, has 157 stores in the UK and plans to open a further five this year.

It was founded by Bill Adderley and his wife Jean, with the first store opening in Leicester in 1984.
