Wellington School is aiming to hit a fundraising target of £80,000 to mark its 80th year in style.

The Timperley school, which was founded in its original guise in 1938, will also mark the 20th anniversary of its hugely successful sponsored walk.

Recent years have seen the school raise £30,500 for Salford-based children’s cancer research charity Kidscan and £41,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

And now Wellington is inviting members of the community to an Information Evening at 6.30pm next Thursday, September 28th, as it plans the huge fundraising push for its milestone year.

Headteacher Stuart Beeley said: “Our annual sponsored walk has raised in excess of an incredible £400,000 since it became part of school life in 1997, but to mark this double milestone we intend to pull out all the stops over the next year to raise funds for three wonderful charities which we have worked closely with over the last few years: Prevent Breast Cancer (formerly known as Genesis Breast Cancer); the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and the Teenage Cancer Trust.”

He added: “There is lots planned for the year and we welcome the support and input of our pupils past and present, parents, the wider community and local businesses to help achieve this ambitious target and make a real difference to those who benefit from the life-changing and life-saving work of these charities.”

Please email admin@wellington.trafford.sch.uk to indicate your intention to attend on September 28th.
