Out This Week
Only the Brave (12A)
Quality drama Only the Brave is currently heating up cinema screens with its gritty portrayal of the heroic work and tragic deaths of an elite firefighting force in Arizona.
Overflowing with masculine emotion and a sense of duty, Only The Brave moves its audience slowly through the work and personal lives of these working-class heroes.
Miles Teller plays a harrowing role as an addict turned father who turns to Fire Chief Eric Marsh (Josh Brolin) for a chance in the dangerous profession. The back and forth between these two characters shows the range of frustration, friendship and brotherhood that exists between the members of the Hotshot crew as they face unimaginable danger up close.
Marsh and his crew face a perilous season of fighting forest fires on the frontline, which unfortunately ends in tragedy. Only The Brave is a thoughtful and fitting ode to the Arizona crew who sadly died protecting their town, and is a gripping film to watch.

Justice League (12A)
Comic book and action movie fans alike will have been eagerly anticipating the release of DC’s latest film franchise offering, Justice League. Featuring a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa, Justice League promises all the trimmings viewers expect from a high budget, blockbuster hit.
Riding on the back of the incredibly well received Wonder Woman, Justice League is touted to be the most ambitious DC Extended Universe film to-date. Months after the events of Batman vs Superman, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) assemble a team of Metahumans to face the catastrophic threat posed by Steppenwolf and his army of terrifying Parademons whilst the world mourns the death of Superman.
Justice League faces a fresh script style with a few lighter notes thanks to screenplay by Joss Whedon (The Avengers) and Ezra Miller’s youthful performance as the Flash. Fans can expect to see these heroes save the world on November 16th.

The Death of Stalin (15)
Quirky, British comedy The Death of Stalin leaves cinemas soon, so don’t miss out on this unusual caper. The collapse of the Soviet Union may not strike many as a comedic topic, but for cinema goers who prefer their laughs more absurd and nuanced than the cookie-cutter Hollywood comedy, The Death of Stalin does not disappoint.
The plot of this film is an abridged version of the race for power that took place after Stalin keeled over in his office from, what the film claims as, laughter at a note from a disgruntled pianist. Featuring a characteristically ‘tally ho!’ British cast, The Death of Stalin lacks any sort of insight into what Mother Russia was actually like at this moment in history but still manages to be an entertaining caricature of one of the most terrifying regimes in modern times.
A film as marmite as this one has gained mixed reviews from critics. However, with a current certified ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s definitely worth checking out one of the most unique films of the year.
Family Favourite
Paddington 2 (PG)
Everyone’s favourite bear returns to our Screens on November 10th to delight audiences young and old. Three years after he first stole our hearts, Paddington Bear (voiced by Ben Wishaw) is now a pillar in his community, and a fully-fledged family member of the Brown clan.
Like all good nephews, Paddington spots the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy in an old antique shop (an exciting pop-up book!) and tries his paw at several odd jobs to save up for the gift. Little does Paddington know, he is not the only one interested in the pop-up book.
The nefarious Phoenix Buchanan (played by Hugh Grant) has other ideas, and steals the book for himself, framing Paddington in the process.
With Paddington locked up, his family go on a series of adventures to help their furry friend, to prove Paddington’s innocence and catch the villainous Phoenix Buchanan. Paddington 2 is sure to be a heart-warming and wholesome tale.

Battle of The Sexes (PG)
The Oscar-winning Emma Stone returns to our screens this autumn (24th November), in the critically acclaimed ‘dramedy’ Battle of the Sexes. Stone plays female tennis icon Billie Jean King, a woman on a mission to fight for equal tennis tournament winnings between men and women.
As King and her cause attract the attention of the media, they also attract the attention of self-styled chauvinist and retired sporting superstar Bobby Riggs. Riggs, brilliantly played by Steve Carrell, challenges any woman who thinks they can beat him in a tennis match to play against him to the tune of a $100,000 prize.
Battle of the Sexes balances 70s kitsch (from the same directors as Little Miss Sunshine), complex backstories of characters on either side of the gender divide and excellent cinematography. Tipped as a potential candidate for awards season, Battle of the Sexes is an excellently cast story that focuses on remain true to your beliefs, aiming for seemingly-impossible goals and breaking a few glass ceilings on the way.
