Bowdon Hightown women’s hockey team are set to come up against the cream of Europe after being crowned national champions.

Goals from Sally Walton and Charlene Mason were enough to give Bowdon a 2-1 win over Leicester in the Jaffa Super 6s Women’s Final, the 12th time they have earned the title of best women’s indoor team in the country.

The 14-strong team will be heading to Europe in February next year to compete in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Champions Cup.

Mason, who netted the winner just four minutes from time, said: “It was a total team effort but obviously I’m over the moon to have scored the winner. I can’t wait for us all to go to Europe where hopefully we can win the European title too!”

Bowdon Hockey Club has recently secured a lucrative sponsorship deal from Altrincham-based solicitors Price Slater Gawne which will see adult and junior players across more than 20 teams sporting the company’s logo on their kit for the next three years.

Price Slater Gawne director Chris Gawne, who plays and manages Bowdon Hockey’s men’s eighth team, said: “We are thrilled that Bowdon Hightown have been crowned national champions at the Jaffa Super 6s Indoor Hockey competition.

“They showed great skill and mental strength to come out on top and the Bowdon fans did their bit too! We are proud to be supporting Bowdon and wish the team all the best representing English hockey in European competition next season.”
