Police take action against 17 youths in connection with spate of assaults and robberies in Altrincham

Police have taken action against 17 youths in connection with a spate of recent assaults and robberies in Altrincham.

Police have taken action against 17 youths in connection with a spate of recent assaults and robberies in Altrincham.

Last month, officers reported that the names of 19 “predominantly local” teenagers had been put forward as part of investigations into two personal robberies which occurred in Hale, an assault in John Leigh Park and an assault which occurred on a bus in Altrincham.

Many others had reported feeling threatened or intimidated by large gangs of youths, and some schools in the area, including Wellington School in Timperley, warned parents and pupils to be vigilant.

Greater Manchester Police have now released a statement in relation to action taken by Altrincham officers working in conjunction with the Youth Offending Team and Trafford Anti-Social Behaviour Officers.

It read: “Fourteen offenders have been identified and issued with Acceptable Behaviour Contracts preventing them from behaving in a certain manner, associating with certain individuals and attending specific locations.

“Also three youths have been interviewed under caution for Robbery, Assault and Public Order offences and referred to the Youth Offending Team for appropriate action to be taken.”

Police said that since the intervention, the number of reported incidents of youth crime had “significantly reduced”.
