This traditional Altrincham pub is the best in Trafford, says the Campaign for Real Ale

The Old Packet House has been named 2018 Pub of the Year by Trafford & Hulme CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

The Old Packet House has been named 2018 Pub of the Year by Trafford & Hulme CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

The Navigation Road pub beat out competition from the more modern Font in Chorlton, and fellow Altrincham establishment, Pi, which took home the pub of the year crown last year.

The Con Club was also celebrated in the awards, and was unlucky to miss out on the award for Best Newcomer, with their own-brewed real ale just missing out to Urmston’s Barking Dog.

Trafford & Hulme CAMRA described the Old Packet House as “a shining example of all that is good about traditional pubs”, praising their roaring fire, good value “pub grub” and great local beer.

Old Packet House landlords Claire Hardman and Roger Rowles told us: “It is an honour to receive CAMRA’s Trafford & Hulme Pub of the Year 2018 award, in recognition of the hard work from the staff and ourselves in keeping the values of a traditional pub.

“This could not be achieved without our loyal customers and members of CAMRA who have supported us.

“We look forward to our presentation evening on Thursday 5th April where we’re inviting everyone to come and celebrate with us on this fantastic achievement.”

CAMRA was established in 1971 to celebrate pubs selling traditional beer, or real ale, as globally branded keg beers began to dominate the scene.
