This weekend’s Harfest will include 23 family-friendly activities so that kids and adults can get a “good taster” of all the different things that go on at the market.
Many of the activities added to this year’s event, such as the storytelling sessions and the musical performances for under-16s, are free and visitors just need to register online to join in.
Over Saturday and Sunday, the drop-in activities at the festival will include a Jack and the Beanstalk inspired treasure hunt, fairground games, scarecrow making, graffiti, apple pressing and much more.
Gail Titchener, one of the activity organisers, said: “Just like the Market is, the festival will also be family-friendly and we wanted to have as much to offer the children to keep them busy all weekend.
“We’ve taken existing ideas from the market and thought how we could make them more kid-friendly. This year, we’ve got the stallholders involved in running the activities such as the T-shirt making with Lilpop.
“A lot of the events are free for people to come down and enjoy and the rest are very reasonably priced.”
Organisers wanted to add more family-friendly events this year because the festival will be raising money for Reverse Rett.
Rett Syndrome predominantly strikes healthy little girls between their first and second birthday and leaves them with multiple disabilities and medical complexities for life.
On the Saturday, the activities include Storytelling, flower headband making, Disney Sing-a-long, musical instrument making, T-shirt printing, Jammin’ with the Hairy Ales and an iPhoto Booth.
On the Sunday, bread-making, the Great Alty bake-off, afternoon tea and stone painting will also be open to all.
Gail added: “All of the activities are inclusive, whether you’re really little or you’re 80, you can take part in them.
It’s been really good fun to be involved with it. Everyone wants the market to do well and they’ve seen what it’s brought to Altrincham. It’s a celebration of that as well really.”
