The Office of National Statistics has revealed today that of the 86 people who died in Trafford that week of all causes, 39 were linked to Covid-19.

Of those, 22 took place in care homes – 56% of the total – with 15 in hospital, one at home and one in a hospice.

The total number of Trafford-based Covid-19 deaths in the week ending May 1st – in any location – represents the heaviest weekly death toll yet.

Across the country, the number of coronavirus deaths in care homes has actually started to fall.

In the week ending May 1st, there were 2,800 deaths linked to the virus, bringing the virus death toll in care homes to more than 9,700.
