Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted carjacking involving a 33-year-old woman in Hale.

The victim was driving down Hale Road at around 8.45pm on Friday 23 October when she stopped at the pedestrian crossing near to the junction with Brown Street.

She told police there was then a bang on the front passenger window and, turning to see what it was, saw a man standing at the window holding a long bat above his head. Fearing she would be attacked, the woman drove away.

Detective Inspector John Stainton of Trafford division said: “This was a frightening ordeal for an innocent member of the public who was going about her normal business.

“The woman is understandably shaken by what happened and I want to reassure people living in the Hale area that we are taking this seriously.

“We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident and I would urge anyone with any information to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7530 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
