The public will get three opportunities to have their say on the £6m public realm project announced last week.

Trafford Council has announced that consultation boards and members of the design team from consultants Planit-IE will be available at Altrincham Town Hall on Market Street on the following dates:

  • Monday 26th January, 1300 – 1900 (Room 2, Ground Floor)
  • Tuesday 27th January, 1300 – 1900 (Room 4, Ground Floor)
  • Friday 30th January, 1200 – 1730 (Room 2, Ground Floor)

Members of the public are invited to comment on the three-year project that’s set to start in March.

The improvements, which will aim to “transform vehicle-dominated streets into pedestrian-friendly environments”, are set to include the following:

  • Gateway spaces marking the entrance to the town
  • New street paving using robust, high quality materials that contribute to the character of Altrincham
  • Wider, tree-lined streets with equal priority for pedestrians and vehicles
  • Sympathetic lighting to highlight key architectural assets
  • De-cluttering of streets to improve the user experience
  • Developing a parking and wayfinding strategy for the town

Phase one of the works will include Shaw’s Road, Cross Street, Stamford New Road (in front of the taxi rank) and Goose Green, with completion scheduled for September.
