A 15-year-old member of Hale Karate Club has won a place in the England squad.

Alex Cockx, who attends Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, has been training with the club for three years.

He’s also gained his black belt in Shotokan karate.

“My passion for Karate has developed over the years as I have passed more gradings,” said Alex. “My objective was always to obtain a black belt. It is a double win for me to have been chosen for the England squad.”

Garry Harford, Karate Union of Great Britain grading examiner, said: “Many congratulations go to Alex. This is a fabulous result and shows just what hard work and commitment can achieve.”

Hale Karate Club, which is based at The Grammar in Bowdon, was launched three years ago and is open to males and females of all ages. The club has also recently launched a ladies-only beginners’ class.
