Graham Brady has been re-elected MP for Altrincham & Sale West – but with a much reduced majority.

Brady, who was first elected in the constituency in 1997, won 26,933 votes, a 51% share.

That represented a slight increase on the total number of votes he had won in 2015, but his overall majority was slashed from 13,290 to 6,426 as Labour candidate Andrew Western secured 20,507 votes.

That meant Labour’s share was up 12.2% to 38.8% on 2015.

Liberal Democrat Jane Brophy saw her vote dip slightly on two years ago, down 0.7% to 4,051, while the Green Party’s Geraldine Coggins picked up exactly 1,000, around half the number of votes the party picked up in the constituency two years ago.

Liberal Party candidate Neil Taylor polled 299 votes.

Turnout in the constituency was 72.2%, up from 70.2% two years ago.
