An exclusive women’s clothing, accessories and homewares store has opened in Hale.

Basil & Bea has opened in the unit previously occupied by a dry cleaners on Park Road.

It’s a first physical retail venture for owner Hari Martin, who used to work on the agency side of the fashion business, representing luxury brand Armor-Lux for Manchester-based Northern Lights.

The 27-year-old told us: “It’s something I always wanted to do, so when the opportunity arose I thought it could be my last chance.”

Originally from Norfolk, Hari went to university in Manchester and has gravitated to Hale with partner Tom Osborne, who runs a health nutrition website called Powderport.

Basil & Bea – described as a “lifestyle destination store” by Hari – will be squarely going after the Hale market with a range of exclusive, high-end products.

“We’ll be trying to pinch the customer who would usually go to Harvey Nichols or Selfridges at the Trafford Centre. Our range won’t be as expensive, but will stock quality products in a bespoke environment.”

Basil & Bea will stock the likes of New York brands Elizabeth and James and Tanya Taylor, London-based King & Tuckfield, Yolke pyjamas, Larsson & Jennings watches, Cornelia Webb jewellery, Le Specs sunglasses and Mast Brothers chocolate.

The store, which is having its official launch today, has been open for trading since July 1st. Opening hours are Tues-Fri 10am – 6pm, Sat 10am – 5pm and Sun 11am – 3pm.
