Work begins on Altrincham’s new Everyman Cinema as company targets “winter” opening

Work has begun on the new Everyman Cinema on George Street with the new venue set to open this winter.

Work has begun on the new Everyman Cinema on George Street with the new venue set to open this winter.

The boutique cinema chain, which has 22 venues across England, is opening a four-screen cinema and bar in the currently vacant former JJB Sports unit at 74-84 George Street.

Trafford Council approved the company’s plans in May and work to remove roof finishes and structures, internal demolition works and mechanical demolition is currently being undertaken by Complete Demolition.

The application was originally prepared by Merepark Project Management on behalf of a company called Altrincham Regeneration LLP.

Everyman has now erected Laurel and Hardy themed boards around the site announcing that it will be opening this “winter”.

The cinema’s four screens and a bar/restaurant would be located on the first floor with two retail/leisure units – spanning 4,000 sq ft and 5,000 sq ft – at ground level.

The proposed cinema would be accessible both from New Market Square and George Street, and would be the second cinema in Altrincham after Vue on Denmark Street.

Earlier this year, Everyman said it was hoping to “create something special” in Altrincham and open in 2018.

Chief executive Crispin Lilly said: “Our focus is really on experience, from a fabulous bar and food and drink menu, including lovely wines and hand rolled pizzas, to comfy sofa seating and a great programme of film and events.

“We aim to make every guest’s visit special no matter what they choose to watch, and make them fall in love with a night at the cinema.”
