Mark Cavendish, Britain’s most successful rider of all time and a former Sports Personality of the Year winner, will be taking part in the Tour of Britain cycle race that will stop off in Altrincham on Saturday 14th September.

Cavendish holds the record for the most stage victories the event – 10, including three apiece in the 2012 and 2013 editions of the race.

The Manxman’s return to the OVO Energy Tour of Britain, which starts in Glasgow on Saturday before the final stage starts in Altrincham on Saturday 14th September, comes after he missed the 2018 race through illness. It will be Cavendish’s 10th participation in his home Tour.

He and team-mate Steve Cummings have today been named in Team Dimension Data’s six-man line-up for the event. Cummings, 38, became only the second – and most recent – home winner of the modern race when he won the 2016 edition.

In other rider announcements, British stars Alex Dowsett and Harry Tanfield will headline Team KATUSHA ALPECIN’s line-up, while former winner Dylan van Baarle and hotly-tipped Russian Pavel Sivakov headline Team INEOS’ six-man squad.

And four-time Tour de France stage winner Dylan Groenewegen will return to the event for his third appearance in the UK’s biggest professional cycle race.
