Tributes have been paid to “absolute legend” Robins fan Mark Eckersall, who has died after a long battle with cancer.

Altrincham FC said it was “deeply saddened” to learn of the death of Mark this morning.

Mark had been diagnosed with advanced melanoma. He died with his wife, Jane, at his side and the club said he was “peaceful and pain free”.

A well-known figure at the J Davidson Stadium, Mark described himself as a “proud Altrincham fan since 1986” and had been able to enjoy the Robins’ play-off success on August 2nd.

Friends and fans queued up to pay tribute to Mark on social media, with Robins photographer Michael Ripley describing him as “a source of great inspiration and positivity”.

Altrincham FC said that Mark was “one of Alty’s greatest & most loved fans”.
