Hale Tennis Club has appointed its first ever female coaches.
Alex Neipal joins the Park Avenue club alongside specialist and juniors coach Caroline Buncall.
The pair’s arrival at Hale Tennis Club coincides with LTA’s aim to increase the number of female tennis club coaches to 1,600 in Britain by 2025.
David Rawlinson, President of the LTA, said: “LTA’s vision is to open up tennis so that it is a sport that can be played by anyone, no matter their age, background, ability or gender.
“We are committed to the increasing of female coaches, not only because it will make a difference in terms of women and girls playing tennis, but also the wider positive impact that female coaches can have for clubs and tennis as a whole.”
Martyn Smith, Hale President, said: “Alex as assistant Head Coach brings a wealth of experience… her role will be instrumental in the future progression of the club.”
He added: “To have Caroline joining us with her unique credentials for teaching tennis to young children, we feel we can offer a very comprehensive programme at the club.”
Alex has over 20 years of coaching experience, having also performed at Grand Slam tournaments including Wimbledon and the Australian Open.
On arrival, Alex said: “I am really looking forward to being at Hale and Mark [Furness] and the rest of the coaches have made me feel really part of the virtual team so far.”
She added: “I know Caroline will agree with me and I am delighted at her support in joining me at Hale, together with Mark and the guys we look forward to an unlimited programme of tennis.”
