Police are appealing for information after a “shocking” attack in broad daylight on the Bridgewater Canal towpath near Timperley Metrolink stop yesterday.

Officers responded to reports a man in his 60s had been assaulted close to Park Road in Timperley at around 11am yesterday morning.

They found a 62-year-old man with serious facial injuries after a completely unprovoked attack.

An unknown male had approached the man and his partner as they were walking along the canal path, before punching the man to the ground and stealing his electric scooter.

Police descrive the offender as skinny, around 5ft 7″, with light brown hair and in his late teens or early 20s. He was wearing a black tracksuit.

A small black cross body bag belonging to the offender was seized at the scene.

Officers are continuing to investigate the assault and no arrests have been made.

Detective Inspector Helen Bagnall, from GMP’s Trafford District, said: “This was a shocking, unprovoked attack in broad daylight, and this kind of violent behaviour won’t be tolerated.

“We’re following a number of lines of enquiry and looking through CCTV, but there were a number of witnesses in the area at the time and we’re keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything, recognise the male from the description, or have CCTV or DashCam footage that could help.
