The worst five roads for potholes in Trafford are all in the Altrincham area.

There were a total of 4,165 reports about potholes in the borough last year, up 20% from the previous year.

And figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by The Messenger have revealed that Altrincham appears to be disproportionately affected by potholes, at least in terms of the roads that attract the most complaints.

Sinderland Lane is by far the biggest offender in Trafford in terms of the number of pothole reports, with 384 reports, more than three times more than any other road.

In second place in the table is Gaddum Road in Bowdon, with 112 reports, followed by Thorley Lane in Timperley (98) and Oldfield Road in Altrincham (89).

Groby Road in Altrincham, with 87 reports, has attracted the fifth highest number of reports, the same as Chester Road in Stretford.

A spokesperson for One Trafford, the partnership between Trafford Council and contractor Amey which is responsible for the borough’s roads, said the council was delivering an “extensive” programme of repairs.

They said: “Due to the ageing network, the number of potholes identified as a result of inspections has increased. However, Trafford Council is delivering an extensive programme of repairs.

“Firstly, potholes at a depth of 40mm or more are to be repaired in 28 days or less, depending on the severity. In addition, Trafford Council is undertaking a capital programme of resurfacing works.”

“The current programme consists of 44 schemes and includes Sinderland Lane, which is due to undergo repairs next month. Prior to this, Sinderland Road at the junction with Draybank Road was resurfaced in September 2020, and more recently underwent repairs at the junction with Clarke Street.
