This week’s national rail strike is set to have an impact on Metrolink trams on the Altrincham line.

Last-minute talks between unions and rail bosses have failed to agree a resolution, meaning planned strikes on most major lines tomorrow, Thursday and Saturday will now go ahead.

Metrolink trams are not involved in the strike and Transport for Greater Manchester will be operating additional double services across the network on the affected dates in order to create extra capacity on the network.

But services between Altrincham and Timperley will only operate from 7am to 7pm on the three dates, and at a 12-minute frequency. Usually trams run between the two stops between 6am and 11-12pm, and every six minutes.

Services will now be operating as follows:

  • 6am to 7am – Timperley to Piccadilly only. No trams will operate between Altrincham and Timperley and you will need to use the replacement bus service.
  • 7am to 7pm – Altrincham to Bury (every 12 minutes) AND Timperley to Piccadilly (every 12 minutes). This means that between Timperley and Manchester city centre, there will be a service every six minutes.
  • 7pm to midnight – Timperley to Piccadilly only. No trams will operate between Altrincham and Timperley and you will need to use the replacement bus service.

Bus replacement services will be departing from the stops at Altrincham, Navigation Road and Timperley.
