Trafford Council has refused permission for a storage company to open a new 95,000 sq ft facility in the former Aldi supermarket in Broadheath.

Lok’nStore had hoped to build a new business and household storage facility at the corner of George Richards Way and Davenport Lane, where Aldi occupied before moving to a bigger store on the Atlantic Street Retail Park in October 2020.

But Trafford Council said the proposed 95,000 sq ft storage facility would appear “incongruous and physically dominating within the street scene”.

The refusal notice added that the proposed development “would adversely impact upon key views which encompass the setting of designated heritage assets”.

Lok’nStore had already reduced the height of the building by two metres following concerns from planning officers during pre-application discussions.
