A husband and wife team have opened a new Italian restaurant in Hale village.
Mirco and Lynn Franco have opened Il Trullo – after the Italian for a dry stone shelter – after completing a full refurbishment.
The restaurant is located on Ashley Road, above Hale Newsagents and Canada Grill, in the space formerly occupied by the Turkish Café Bar.
Some of the most popular dishes at the new restaurant include tagliatelle with lamb ragu, panzerottini, Puccia (fluffy flatbread filled with Parma mam, smoked Scamorza cheese, mozzarella cheese, chopped tomatoes and rocket), beef cheeks, squid in spaghetti with prawns and artichokes, and scallops with crispy spicy salami and hazelnut puree.
Mirco, originally from Puglia in southern Italy, trained to be a professional chef in Italy after first discovering a love of cooking from his mother.
He previously worked at Dom’s Tavola Calda in Manchester city centre, Nino’s in Rawtenstall, and Albert’s in Worsley and Castlefield.
Mirco previously told us that they “don’t just want to be just another Italian restaurant… we want to be something different”.
Mirco is from Puglia in the south of Italy and learned his culinary skills from his mother.
He’s previously worked at Dom’s Tavola Calda in Manchester city centre, Nino’s in Rawtenstall, and Albert’s in Worsley and Castlefield. He’s also worked in Australia and all over Italy.
He said the new restaurant – which will be hiring around eight staff – would offer a full range of pizza and homemade pasta dishes as well as meat, fish and the Cicchetti dishes.
Il Trullo will be open from Monday to Friday (except Tuesdays), 12-2.30pm and 5-10pm, and from 12-10.30pm on Saturdays and 12-9pm on Sundays.
