The Altrincham Word Fest, a two-week celebration of writing, returns to the town centre for a second year this weekend.
Various events and workshops are taking place in venues across the town, with the festival opening on Saturday May 11th and running until May 26th.
Among the local talent featuring this year will be Altrincham’s own David Nolan, who will be discussing his first work of fiction, Black Moss, having penned numerous biographies of figures including Tony Wilson, Ed Sheeran and The 1975. The Altrincham Today-hosted event will take place at the Town Hall on May 23rd.
Nicholas Royle, who grew up near the Garrick Theatre and is now a successful writer, lecturer and publisher, will be giving advice on how to get your work published.
Jonathan Swinton will be discussing his new book ‘Alan Turing’s Manchester’, describing the post-war Manchester that Turing encountered and his links to the Hale and Bowdon area.
Clare Stuart, well known in Altrincham as the organiser of Denzell Gardens Book Festival, will be bringing her popular creative writing workshop ‘Pen to Paper’ to Word Fest.
And Dave Haslam, DJ, journalist and author, will be talking about his memoir ‘Sonic Youth Slept on my Floor: Music, Manchester and More’.
The festival has again been organised by local residents Anne Earley and Yoko Isami.
