A new live music bar is opening on the site of a former Hale butchers this week

It will officially open on Friday.

A former butchers shop that has stood empty in Hale village for nearly three years is to be given a new lease of life this week - as a live music bar.

Butchers Bar opens for a soft launch on Thursday 30th April from 5pm, with the official opening following on Friday 1st May.

The brainchild of Ben Shepherd - who also founded ready-to-drink alcoholic iced tea brand Tipple Tea, which will be served on draught at the bar - the venue is centred on live music, with comfortable seating at the front for cocktails, wines and beers, and live sport shown at the back.

A visual showing how the bar will look inside

The former butcher's shop has been extended to open up the back, with a skylight and stage added. The interior has been fitted out almost entirely using reclaimed materials and second-hand furnishings, with butcher-themed décor and cocktails a nod to the building's history.

Shepherd said: "Our vision has always been to bring entertainment and energy back to Hale - something that's been missing since the days of American Bar and Est Est Est.

"We've created a space that welcomes a great mix of ages and personalities. Whether it's live music, beers, cocktails, great wines or live sport, it's all about creating an atmosphere people want to come back to."

Butchers Bar is opening in the former Turtons of Hale butchers

Shepherd previously ran the Mamacitas pop-up bars in Hale.

Food will follow on 1st June, when neighbouring restaurant Sigiriya joins the venture with an exclusive small plates menu.

Summer opening hours: Monday to Wednesday 2pm-midnight; Thursday and Friday 1pm-12.30am; Saturday noon-12.30am; Sunday noon-11pm.
