Stop messing around? Not with Altrincham couple’s new children’s party business

A husband and wife team from Altrincham have launched a new business that gives children an excuse to do what they love best: messing around.

A husband and wife team from Altrincham have launched a new business that gives children an excuse to do what they love best: messing around.

Michael and Michelle Handby have bought the Cheshire and South Manchester franchise for Mess Around Ltd, a company providing multi-sensory, tactile play experiences for children aged between six months (or sitting unaided) and five years.

Michelle explains: “We wanted to take our daughter to a messy play event nearby but there were not any in Altrincham, our home town. We then knew we had to bring it to Altrincham so local children can benefit from it!

“We are really excited about becoming branch leaders of Mess Around Ltd and love the fact that we rotate into different areas of the region, driven by demand from parents, so everyone gets a chance.”

Messy play is said to help the development of a child’s cognitive and creative abilities, allowing a child to explore their senses by providing the opportunity to pour, mix, squeeze and squelch materials not normally available to them.

Unlike traditional pre-school groups, the focus is on non-structured free play so that each child can develop at their own pace.

Materials used include gloop, rainbow spaghetti and shaving foam – and all the clearing up is done by Mess Around.

A launch event at Altrincham FC Community Centre on Sunday 8th November is already sold out, but the Handbys are taking bookings for events in December.
