Timperley couple launch carriage service to let wedding babies “walk” down the aisle

A Timperley couple have launched a unique wedding business – hiring out baby carriages for a bride and groom’s children to share their big day.

Sean and Collette Bourke say they launched Premier Baby Wedding Carriages because there was nothing on the market that let small children actively take part in the wedding ceremony.

Each carriage is suitable for babies and toddlers up to two and a half years old, and uses eco-friendly wood, discreet baby straps and silk and satin furnishings.

And Sean said they had already had a number of bookings from around the UK as well as a booking in Ireland.

“We were getting married in March 2016 and in the planning we wanted to come up with a way of including all of our children. The elder children were easy – Ellie is 11 and was a bridesmaid and Charles is 8 and one of my best men.

“But Darcy, being 10 months, was difficult to factor in as she would either have to be in a pram or held by someone during the ceremony and for pictures later.

“With a lot of research, we realised we will have to do something ourselves to include her in the day and that was when we took the initiative and sourced our own carriage before doing it up to the high standard you see today.

“Because of all the time and hard work that went into creating our own baby wedding carriage, it dawned on us there is a definite gap in the market for couples like us. So we’ve bit the bullet, expanded the baby wedding carriage stock ready for hire and have not looked back.”

Sean and Collette, who also own The Village Osteopaths in Timperley village, have since taken the baby wedding carriage to a wedding fair at Tatton Park, where they say it brought crowds to a standstill.

Collette added: “We were literally the talk of the show and the interest in hiring the baby wedding carriage was unbelievable.

“We’ve only just started but we’re already looking at expanding into providing carriages for pets at weddings because of the response we got from people who wanted to include their dogs in their wedding.”
