Timperley Post Office is to close for more than two weeks from Saturday while a major refurbishment takes place.
The modernisation, part of a major investment programme by the Post Office, will see the Stockport Road branch reopen with three modern screened serving positions and a serving point at the retail counter.
The post office’s Saturday opening hours will also be extended by five hours, meaning it will now be open from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
The work will though mean the branch will be closed for more than a fortnight, from 12.30pm on Saturday, March 18, to 1pm on Tuesday, April 4.
During the closure, post office services will be available at Broomwood Post Office on Briarfield Road and Altrincham Post Office on George Street.
Damian Mulholland, Post Office area manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to residents.
“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”
The news comes 18 months after the post office was closed for three months by an attempted robbery, for which a man was recently jailed for 18 years.
