H & H Eyecare will launch a month of celebrations this June to mark its 10th anniversary, including a Tom Ford eyewear takeover and special offers for patients at the independent Altrincham practice.

The family-owned business, founded by husband-and-wife team Khal and Susan Bhorat, will offer 10% discounts throughout June and introduce a new £75 referral scheme as part of the milestone celebrations. Half the showroom will be dedicated to Tom Ford frames, the practice's bestselling collection.

The anniversary comes as the practice continues to expand its services, having recently invested in visual stress testing equipment for children with reading difficulties and adults suffering with migraines, alongside AI-powered lens measurement technology and their advanced Optomap and OCT systems.

"It's been an incredible journey, and we want to celebrate with the community that has supported us," says Susan Bhorat, the practice's Dispensing and Contact Lens Optician.

"We're marking 10 years with 10% off, but more importantly, we're recognising the loyalty of our patients who've made this possible."

Located next door to Waitrose in Broadheath, H & H Eyecare's success owes much to the complementary expertise of its founders.

Khal brings over 30 years of clinical experience to the practice, having worked for numerous high street opticians and independent practices, combined with specialised work alongside ophthalmologists in refractive surgery.

Susan, whose optical career began as a Saturday girl, qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 2006 after achieving the highest grade in her year at Bradford University. She later added Contact Lens Optician qualifications in 2011, creating a unique skill set that complements Khal's clinical expertise.

"Our skills naturally complement each other," Susan said. "Khal excels at the clinical side – he's renowned as one of the best in the area. My passion lies in the interaction with people, finding frames that make them feel confident and look great. Most people find the task of finding a frame that suits them quite difficult, but with our experience and expertise, we not only find frame that suits them, but makes them love wearing spectacles again."

Technology at the forefront

What sets H&H Eyecare apart is its pioneering investment in advanced diagnostic technology, particularly its Optomap and OCT systems. While typical high street opticians capture images of only the central 15% of the retina, H&H's equipment examines up to 82%, providing an unprecedented view of eye health.

"This technology allows us to detect conditions at the earliest possible stage," Khal explained. "We've identified 35 asymptomatic retinal detachments, brain tumours and even heart conditions. Some of these conditions have gone undetected elsewhere. It's not just about vision - it's about overall health."

Khal has completed a Professional Certificate in Glaucoma at Cardiff University and is currently undertaking an Independent Prescribing Therapeutics course at Aston University, further expanding his specialist knowledge in glaucoma management and has been instrumental in helping the NHS streamline the ophthalmic referral system into secondary care.

The practice - named after Hannah and Haris, two of the couple's four children - has also become a specialist centre for myopia control in children, addressing what Susan described as a growing global crisis.

"Statistics suggest that by 2050, half the population will be myopic based on current trends," Susan said. "We're seeing children who had perfect vision 12 months ago suddenly needing glasses. It's largely due to increased screen work in schools and at home."

H & H Eyecare offers specialised myopia control lenses that slow myopia progression by preventing excessive eyeball elongation. This is crucial, as increased myopia can lead to a much higher risk of serious complications later in life, including retinal tears, detachments and glaucoma.

"Our own son has been wearing these lenses for three years, and his prescription hasn't changed despite his growth," Susan said. "We've had tremendous success with this technology - it's something we've pioneered and we've really specialised in for a few years now"

Alongside the clinical care, H & H Eyecare also stocks a carefully curated frame collection that includes designer ranges from Tom Ford, Celiné, Oliver Peoples, Oakley, Ray-Ban and other niche brands such as Lindberg, Cartier, Theó, Mykita, Cutler & Gross and more.

"We stock brands that you won't find everywhere," Susan said. "We're the closest Mykita stockist for customers from as far away as Leeds, and we offer bespoke options like Lindberg frames where customers can customise every aspect. We've even recently added customisable 3D printed frames from Switzerland."

Personal service in a digital age

In an era of 20-minute appointments and conveyor-belt healthcare, H & H Eyecare takes a different approach. Its location next to Waitrose, with free parking and level access, attracts customers from across the North.

"We get to know our patients very well as people," Khal said. "We know their families, their stories. When you walk in here, you're greeted with a smile, a drink and we often have a catch up. We are genuinely interested and this is the bit that makes it all worthwhile. We look after them like family. We can't do this any other way."

Susan's unique skill set complements Khal's clinical expertise

As they celebrate this milestone, both Khal and Susan remain focused on the future. They're considering a second location but refuse to compromise on their standards.

"There's no compromise here," added Khal. "We've set a high bar, but we're pushing further forward still. We want to build a great team before expanding because maintaining our level of care is non-negotiable."

So what else has the future in store for H & H Eyecare?

"Even better service! We are very proud of every one of our two hundred and thirteen 5 star Google reviews but we are not ones to rest on our laurels. We are planning to invest in technology to make our myopia care even better and invest in technology that will give you the most accurate and clearest vision possible," said Khal.

"We are always trying hard to create the best eye care experience."
