Businesses in Altrincham have voted overwhelmingly in favour of continuing Altrincham BID (Business Improvement District) for a further five years.

The result - with 89.38% of businesses in favour - secures the BID's future from April 2026 through to March 2031.

First set up in 2016, the BID is funded by a levy from businesses based on the rateable value of the property.

These funds are then ring-fenced specifically for projects and events - such as the annual Christmas Lights Switch-on and the Trooping the Corgis initiative - which support the businesses in the town centre.

Ewen Miller, managing director of Calderpeel Architects, Chair of the Altrincham BID Board, said: “We are absolutely delighted with this result and the clear mandate from our businesses.

"The BID has achieved so much since it was first established, and this result is a vote of confidence in the work we’re doing. It means we can continue to deliver valuable initiatives that make Altrincham an even better place to live, work and visit.

"The team behind the BID – Mandy, Kate and Jo – have worked incredibly hard to achieve this result both during the ballot process and throughout the current BID term.”

The new BID term will focus on "building upon Altrincham’s reputation as a vibrant, successful town centre with targeted investment in place marketing, business support, events and projects".

Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, said: “This is excellent news for Altrincham and for the borough as a whole. The BID has played an instrumental role in the town’s resurgence, and we welcome the opportunity to continue working in partnership with the BID team to help the town centre thrive.”

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “The Council welcomes the outcome of this ballot. Altrincham BID has done excellent work in the town over the past ten years and it’s great that this activity can now continue into the 2030s.

“Altrincham has become a shining example of where businesses have pulled together for the benefit of all and to improve the areas’ prosperity. I’d like to thank the BID Board and team for their tireless effort to improve the town – and as a Council we look forward to continuing our positive work with the BID in the coming years.”

The new BID term will officially begin on 1 April 2026.
