Altrincham friends complete 100km charity walk in memory of tragic Mike

Four former Altrincham Grammar boys completed a 100km walk this weekend in memory of a friend who tragically committed suicide earlier this year.

Altrincham-based Ben Curtis, Matt Ardern, Ben Hutchinson, Ric Boothman and Matthew Scullion walked non-stop from Maida Vale in London to Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire.

The friends were remembering Mike Curtis, brother of team member Ben, who committed suicide earlier this year at the age of just 32.

Hale-based Mike had been a popular behind-the-scenes crew member on the Coronation Street set, working as a props man, before his untimely death. One of the walkers, Matthew Scullion, described Mike as a “much loved son, brother and uncle”.

All money raised from the completed challenge will go to CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably – the tally currently stands at over £4,000.

Speaking today, Matthew added: “We completed the event at 7.50am on Sunday morning in a time of 23 hrs, 21 mins. All five of us competed the event and crossed the line together. We’re all a bit sore today but delighted to have done it.”
