Sixth form students from Altrincham Grammar School for Boys recently held their annual tea party to raise money in memory of Chad Mulholland, a student who died of Hodgkinson’s disease in 2008.
The tea party raised £700 for The Willow Foundation, a charity that arranges special days for terminally ill young people, and this year included a ‘Bake off’ with a Presidential theme that saw the Republicans go up against the Democrats.
The afternoon saw both teachers and students pitted against each other in a bid to bake the best cakes, and was attended by pupils from both Altrincham Grammar School for Boys and Altrincham Girls Grammar School in a collective effort to raise as much as possible by later auctioning the cakes.
George Hallwood, a sixth form student at the school, said: “We all had a lot of fun whilst raising money for this incredible charity.
“The icing on the cake was undoubtedly the Willow Foundation coming out as winners with £700 being raised in a single afternoon.”
Chad was only 17 when he lost a three-year battle with Hodgkinson’s disease, only days after after achieving top grades in his maths A level.
