The Family and Counselling Centre in Altrincham is celebrating after receiving a £60,000 cash boost from Children in Need.

The centre – which actually comprises centres in Stamford Park and at Broomwood Community Wellbeing Centre in Timperley – has received a grant of £60,060 that’s earmarked to support 360 children over the next three years.

It offers counselling to adults, couples, families, and to children and young people from the age of five.

Centre manager, Jo Allen, said: “We could not continue to reach out to the families and young people around the Altrincham area without the support of funders such as Children in Need, and our amazing team of counsellors and volunteers.

“The grant will help us change the lives of even more people and give them the support they need, when they need it the most.”

The funding will not only allow the charity to meet the growing demand for counselling support at its centres in Altrincham and Timperley, but also offer two new services.

The local charity’s counsellors will work with the Trafford Domestic Abuse Service to offer specialist counselling sessions for children who have witnessed or been victims of domestic abuse.

They will also run a training course and peer support group for teenagers affected by bullying, which will focus on building confidence and peer support.
