The One Trafford Partnership has received a funding boost of £500,000 to help tackle potholes on Trafford’s roads.
The money has been allocated by the Department for Transport to repair potholes in key locations including Sinderland Road.
Potholes occur mostly during winter and are caused by ‘frost heave’, when freezing water causes ice expansion in the road surface and disrupts the integrity of the surfacing.
The schemes identified for pothole repairs will be carried out alongside the current highways improvement programme.
This programme, which consists of over 150 schemes, began in April 2023 but just 10 of the 54 Altrincham-based repairs have so far been completed.

Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services & Traded Services, said: “With this additional funding from the Department of Transport, we are able to protect and maintain our most important asset.
"Our highway inspection teams are continually monitoring the network and have identified key schemes to transform our journeys, keeping all road user safe and communities connected. We use a number of treatment methods to protect Trafford’s roads, adapting to the needs of the network. Pothole treatments are just one of the many methods we use here in Trafford.
“Any residents or businesses who may be affected by upcoming roadworks will be contacted directly by the highways team. Residents may receive a letter with details of individual schemes on their road or in some cases, a visit from a member of staff. Any diversions or temporary traffic lights will be signposted ahead of scheduled scheme start date so that everyone can plan their journeys.”
Trafford’s highway network consists of 800km of road, plus around 1,184km of footways and cycle ways.
