Civic services of Remembrance, parades and wreath layings will be held across Trafford on Sunday, November 9th.
The services will give local residents the chance to remember and honour the servicemen and women who gave their lives in both World Wars and in more recent conflicts.
Events will be held in towns and villages across the borough, including parades in Sale, Stretford, Urmston and Hale, and services in Altrincham, Bowdon, Hale Barns and Partington. Each ceremony will include the traditional two-minute silence, wreath-laying and prayers of remembrance.
The Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Jane Brophy, will attend the Civic Remembrance Service in Hale.
Ahead of the weekend, the Council’s street cleansing partner, Amey, will be ensuring the borough’s cenotaphs and parade routes are looking their best. Crews have been assigned to remove fallen leaves and moss, and professionally clean the monuments to create a fitting and dignified setting for each event.
Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Jane Brophy, said: “It is vitally important we remember all the members of our Armed Forces who have given so much to protect us and our way of life.
"Without the brave actions and sacrifices made by our military, we would not enjoy the freedom we now have. It’s therefore right that each year at this time, we take a moment to pause and reflect on the bravery and dedication to duty of our Armed Forces.
“I would urge everyone to attend one of the services in our borough to pay our respects and give our thanks in remembrance of the fallen.”
