Britain may have decided to leave the EU – but Altrincham’s grand celebration of French culture, food and music will be bigger and better than ever this year.
The Altrincham French Festival returns for a fourth year on Friday July 8th, and this year will be a three-day spectacular, lasting until the main Stamford Park event on Sunday July 10th.
On the Friday there will be a French Cultural evening with classical music, dance and poetry reading.
On Saturday July 9th, a carnival parade involving local young people will walk through the town centre, with a ‘Bastille Evening’ to follow on the Saturday night with three-course French meal, live entertainment and a spectacular firework display.
And then on Sunday July 10th, Stamford Park in Hale – where 5,000 came together for last year’s record-breaking event – will host the family day with a Euro 2016-themed U10 girl’s football tournament, a cycling Sportive for families and a “La Grande Bake off “competition.
There will also be a five-hour concert with a spectacular line-up of performing artists, dozens of food and drink stalls and a wide range of activities for young people.
Marie Curie will once again be supported by raffle draws over the weekend, and this year the festival is supported by Arts et Culture en Francophonie, a North West-based French language charity.
Festival director Zainul Sachak said: “Although Britain has made its decision to leave the EU, we remain passionate about celebrating with our French cousins as we want to create an event where all people and families come together to enjoy a weekend of French culture and sporting activities. There is something for everyone.”
