The switch-on event, on Saturday 19th November, will be organised by Altrincham Unlimited (the new name for Altrincham’s Business Improvement District) and hosted by Key 103 DJ Darren Proctor. Following several years of reduced Christmas lights displays, this year promises to be a celebration of the resurgence of Altrincham, as an enhanced display of festive lights is revealed right across the town centre.

Businesses in Altrincham have given their full support, contributing a wide range of gifts that reflect the ever-improving offer in the town centre. Retailers including Waterstones, The Entertainer, Paperchase, WH Smith, Wilko, Edit & Oak, Idaho, Homebird, Bumkins Designer Kids, Diadem Jewellery, Randalls Jewellery and Didi’s Boutique have all donated gifts, and the winner will also be able to look forward to afternoon tea at The Old Post Rooms, tickets to Alice in Wonderland on Ice at Silver Blades Ice Rink and a fish and chip supper at Altrincham Fish Bar!

Katie Bland, Altrincham Unlimited manager, said: “This will be Altrincham Unlimited’s first year in charge of Christmas events in the town centre, and we’re looking forward to launching the festive season with a fantastic event for all the family on Saturday 19th November.

Watch last year’s switch-on:

“Via our partnership and competition with Key 103 we’ll be asking local children to tell us why they love Altrincham, and the best answer will win an amazing prize; the honour of joining our performers on stage to switch on the Christmas lights, and a festive hamper bursting with gifts. Whoever wins will have their Christmas shopping sewn up nice and early this year!

“There’s a real buzz in Altrincham now with new businesses opening almost weekly, and this competition is a celebration of everything that makes Altrincham special – the businesses, the people and a collective determination to revitalise the town.”

David Wightman, manager of the Stamford Quarter and Altrincham Unlimited board member, added: “We have had some great Christmas lights switch-on events over the past few years in the Stamford Quarter, and this year’s promises to be the best yet. The businesses have really risen to the occasion with some very generous donations, and we think it’s fitting that after all the work the local community have put into the resurgence of Altrincham, this year’s lights will be switched on by an Altrincham ‘Christmas Star’.”

Entries must be received by noon on Friday 11th November and the winner will be informed on the same day.
