Altrincham’s famous festival celebrates its 40th anniversary this year – and is calling on local people to help make it the biggest event ever.
Having started in 1977, this year’s Ruby festival will take place on Saturday July 1st.
Organisers, led by Neil Taylor, says that although the date seems a long way off, early planning will really “make a difference”.
“We are asking everyone in the area to get involved and take the Ruby theme to heart,” said Taylor.
“Everyone can take part in the grand parade, from local schools, faith groups, charities, groups and business we are urging everyone to come on board to make this the biggest and best parade we have ever put on.”
The Altrincham and District Grand Parade attracts thousands of participants and spectators each year and is a highlight of the local calendar.
Taylor said the festival committee was currently exploring new ideas for this year, such as a celebrity walk as part of the parade or an exhibition in the town to showcase the history of the event.
An Altrincham Fringe event is also being worked on to showcase local talent.
The festival is also looking for volunteers to help as parade marshals and many other roles on the day, as well as a Rose Bud aged between 8 and 11 and a Festival Queen aged over 18.
