The 2017 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon returns to Trafford on Sunday and will once again take a route through Altrincham and Timperley.
But thanks to the ongoing roadworks on Stamford New Road, the route will be slightly different from previous years.
The marathon – renowed as the UK’s flattest marathon – will pass through Timperley village as usual before turning off Stockport Road on to Oakfield Road (alongside the leisure centre).
The route then turns right up Moss Lane before turning on to Stamford New Road at the junction where the old McDonald’s (and now new Nando’s) will be. It then continues on to Barrington Road and right on to Woodlands Road and then left on to Wellington Road.
Along the Altrincham leg of the route, there will be entertainment from local favourites Little Belters, Magic Voices and Loose Change.
The race starts at 9am near the arch on White City Way on the A56, and the route takes in the Trafford Quays area, Sale and Brooklands before hitting Timperley, usually at around 10am.
The Athlete’s Village is based at Emirates Old Trafford, Lancashire County Cricket Club, and will be open to athletes on race day from 7am to 4pm.
