Over 8,000 visitors headed to Altrincham over the August Bank Holiday weekend to enjoy two days of live music, street food and family entertainment in the sun.

The turnout for Sounds Like Altrincham – incorporating the Goose Green Summer Festival, Kings Court Summer Festival and Orangefest – was an incredible 31% up year on year on the Saturday and 10% up on the Sunday.

The bulk of the visitors headed for the Goose Green Summer Festival, with over 3,500 people attending on the Saturday and over 4,500 on the Sunday.

Crowds pack Goose Green to watch Blank Cheque in action

Highlights included sets from up-and-coming local artists The Jade Assembly, Jess Kemp, The Bright Black, Blank Cheque and The Rainband, while Green Room regulars The Henry Revue’s reggae vibe hit just the right note in the afternoon sunshine.

Katie Bland, BID Manager for Altrincham Unlimited, said: “The third Goose Green Summer Festival was the biggest and best yet, and new events at Kings Court and the Orange Tree encouraged people to explore the town centre. A number of venues enjoyed record trading days and the feedback from businesses and visitors has been unanimously positive.

Family entertainment over the weekend included face painting

“Sounds Like Altrincham has really put Altrincham on the map as a fantastic August Bank Holiday destination, and our focus now will be on drawing in even more venues for 2018.”

Anthony Prophet, of The Green Room and Traders Tiki Bar, said: “It’s been brilliant to see the Goose Green Summer Festival grow from a modest community celebration to one of the highlights of the Altrincham calendar, and we’re proud to have played a part in that. Our visiting DJ Vinni Soul had flown in from Miami specially for the event, and he was blown away by the atmosphere here in Altrincham this weekend.

“It was our busiest ever weekend at Traders Tiki Bar, and we can’t wait to see where the festival goes from here!”
