Lantern Parade returns to Altrincham this Saturday with a unique take on the Twelve Days of Christmas

A completely unique take on the Twelve Days of Christmas will be the theme of this year’s Lantern Parade, which takes place in Altrincham this Saturday.

A completely unique take on the Twelve Days of Christmas will be the theme of this year’s Lantern Parade, which takes place in Altrincham this Saturday.

The parade, which starts from Goose Green at 4pm, will finish with a Christmas singalong in Stamford Square at 4.45pm.

A mix of schools and community groups will take a different part of the famous carol – Trafford Leisure Gymnastics group will represent the gold rings, the maids will be dancers from Cardwell Theatre School, the lords and pipers are musicians and performers from Aura Music Academy, the ladies will come from Cinnamon Dance and drummers from The Music Place.

They will join spectacular illuminated lantern puppets for the parade.

The parade will get underway in Goose Green on Saturday afternoon

Also taking part are pupils from local primary schools including Navigation Primary School and Altrincham CofE Primary School, who have prepared lanterns to take part in the parade.

And anyone who would like to take part in the parade can make lanterns at free sessions at Treehouse on George Street – the sessions must be booked in advance here.

Those taking part in the parade will start to gather from 3.15pm in Goose Green where a brass ensemble from Aura Music Academy will get everyone in the festive mood with carols.

The parade will finish with a festive singalong in Stamford Square

The parade route will take in Regent Road, George Street, Cross Street, Stamford New Road and will culminate in Stamford Square. Stamford New Road is recommended as the best viewing points for spectators. Rolling road closures will be in place, and motorists are advised to avoid the route of the parade between 4-5pm if possible.

Also, on Saturday, Santa’s pop-up Grotto will be in House Restaurant and Bar in Goose Green between 11am and 4pm. There is no charge to visit Santa, but donations are welcome to Altrincham Rotary charity.

This year’s parade will have a Twelve Days of Christmas theme

The afternoon build-up will see local dance schools, school and community choirs take to the Stamford Square community stage from midday, where the parade will also finish at 4.45pm with a festive singalong finale led by The Music Place.

Kate Gerbich, Events and Communications Manager for Altrincham BID, said: “Altrincham’s Lantern Parade really is a magical Christmas event and we’re really excited about the new theme this year.

Stamford New Road is recommended as the best viewing location for spectators

“The event brings many families into the town, involves local primary schools, music and dance schools and community choirs. The parade makes its way throughout the town from Goose Green to Stamford Square and there are lots of great vantage points along the way. Make sure you get a good vantage point and arrive early to enjoy the shops, restaurants and bars, plus of course the afternoon entertainment in Stamford Square.”

The event is funded by the businesses of Altrincham and produced by Altrincham BID.
