Planning a trip to see the Lantern Parade this Saturday? If so, why not beat the traffic and make the journey on foot as part of an organised walk?
Altrincham’s Business Improvement District (The BID) is once again coordinating group ‘Quietway’ walks to the town centre on ‘Quietways’ – routes which avoid the busiest roads, use pedestrian crossings and make the most of the green routes on our doorstep.
Walks will set off at 11.30am on Saturday from Bowdon Vale and Timperley, arriving in Altrincham with plenty of time for a day of festive activities in the town centre.
Santa will be in his grotto at House Restaurant in Goose Green, and there will also be performances on the Community Stage in Stamford Square from midday, with Onyx Dance Academy and Cardwell Theatre School among the performers.
The Lantern Parade will gather in Goose Green from 3.15pm where bars will be serving up mince pies and mulled wine whilst students from Aura Music Academy get everybody into the Christmas spirit with some festive music.
Where possible, the Quietways walks have been planned to avoid the busiest roads and allow the group to enjoy the route.
If you’re walking from Timperley, you will take in the peacefulness of King George V Pool, and the Bowdon Vale walk will meander down the historic quietness of the Narrows, the ancient walking route which links Bowdon with Altrincham.
The Timperley to Altrincham Quietway Walk – meet at 11:30am by the Frank Sidebottom Statue in Timperley village. The two-mile walk will last approximately 40 minutes and will take in roads, pathways and some uneven terrain.
